SpaceXai

The AI organization following SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI, developing Grok models and agents alongside the Colossus compute infrastructure.

SpaceXAI is the AI organization associated with xAI after SpaceX acquired it on February 2, 2026. Its work includes Grok models for coding and knowledge work, agents that operate software tools, and Colossus compute infrastructure. In 2026 it jointly trained Grok 4.5 with Cursor and signed an agreement to provide Anthropic access to Colossus 1.[3][4][9][7]

Grok and the Cursor collaboration

SpaceXAI and Cursor released Grok 4.5 together on July 8, 2026. The mixture-of-experts model broadened the training scope beyond Cursor’s earlier coding specialist, Composer 2.5. Cursor Team described training on trillions of tokens of Cursor data covering codebases and developer-agent interactions, alongside STEM tasks, research papers and other knowledge work.[4]

For reinforcement learning, the collaborators used difficult problems in realistic software-engineering and knowledge-work environments. Cursor Team described a distributed system in which engineers specify a problem and verification criteria, then groups of agents construct, test and refine the environment. These tasks teach models to investigate, use tools, recover from mistakes and verify results. Cursor also disclosed that an earlier snapshot of its codebase had accidentally entered training, giving Grok 4.5 an advantage on CursorBench of unclear magnitude; it excluded that benchmark from the announcement and said the data had been removed for future models.[4]

At launch, Grok 4.5 was available through Cursor’s desktop, web, iOS, CLI and SDK interfaces. Base pricing was $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens; the fast variant cost $4 and $18 respectively. Cursor continued to offer Composer 2.5 as a separate model weight class.[4]

Grok 4.6 followed on August 12, focusing on long-running agents and interactive and visual work. xAI described a longer supplemental training run using curated model-generated reasoning and technical data, engineering data, and an improved optimizer and training recipe. It used Grok 4.5 to regenerate supervised fine-tuning trajectories across reasoning efforts, agent harnesses and domains, filtering problematic traces with model-based checks. Agentic reinforcement-learning tasks included kernel optimization, web development and computer-aided design.[5]

The August 12 release offered Grok 4.6 in Cursor, Grok Build, the API and partner platforms including OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare. Pricing started at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, with a fast variant at twice those rates. Two days later, Latent.Space reported that Cursor’s acquisition had closed, with its team joining SpaceXAI to work across Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot, Grok API and Cursor.[5][1]

Grok Bot: work across applications

SpaceXAI launched Grok Bot in beta on August 11, 2026, after developing it as an internal prototype. Bots share a cloud computer, work across applications and websites, and can message one another and share context in threads. The product saves demonstrated workflows as routines that incorporate corrections for subsequent runs.[9]

SpaceXAI described an internal engineering workflow in which one Bot reproduced a bug in the product UI, filed a ticket and handed the fix to a debugging Bot. Other reported uses included updating CRM records from call transcripts and processing invoices received in Gmail. At launch, beta access covered specified SuperGrok and Cursor subscription tiers on desktop and iOS, with usage separate from existing Grok and Cursor allowances; enterprise access had a waitlist.[9]

The models and agents released under SpaceXAI followed earlier xAI financing, compute expansion and multimodal product work. In January 2026, before the SpaceX acquisition, xAI had completed a large funding round and introduced the Grok Imagine API.[6][10][3]

Earlier xAI history: financing and multimodal products

On January 6, 2026, xAI completed a $20 billion Series E, exceeding its $15 billion target. Participants included Valor Equity Partners, Stepstone Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Qatar Investment Authority, MGX and Baron Capital Group. NVIDIA and Cisco Investments participated as strategic investors supporting compute expansion.[6]

In that announcement, xAI reported ending 2025 with over one million H100 GPU equivalents across Colossus I and II—a compute-equivalence figure rather than a physical count of H100 cards. It also reported approximately 600 million monthly active users across X and Grok apps, a combined-platform figure rather than a Grok-only audience. Grok Voice supported speech in dozens of languages, tool calling and real-time data access; xAI reported that it served millions of users across the Grok mobile app and Tesla vehicles.[6]

The Grok Imagine API announcement dated January 28, 2026 extended xAI’s products into video-audio generation and editing. It describes generating video from text or images, restyling scenes, adding or removing objects, and controlling motion. Distribution included xAI’s own API and partner platforms.[10]

Colossus access for Anthropic

After the acquisition, SpaceXAI announced a signed agreement with Anthropic on May 6, 2026 for access to Colossus 1. Anthropic, naming SpaceX as its counterparty, said the agreement covered all of the data center’s compute capacity and would provide access within the month to more than 300 megawatts and over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs. SpaceXAI described the inventory as including H100, H200 and GB200 accelerators.[7][8]

Anthropic announced doubled Claude Code five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans that day, attributing increased limits to the SpaceX partnership together with other compute deals. Both companies also described Anthropic’s interest in partnering on multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity. That remained an expression of interest; SpaceXAI framed the prospect as conditional on overcoming engineering challenges.[8][7]
