Nader Dabit
Software engineer, author and educator whose work includes React Native AI and developer education around coding agents at Cognition.
Nader Dabit is a software engineer, author and educator who created React Native AI, a framework for building cross-platform mobile AI applications. In February 2026, he joined Cognition to work on growth, education, developer experience, documentation and awareness. His public writing argues that coding agents shift developers’ work toward defining goals, designing systems and orchestrating execution.[3][5][6][4]
Cognition and coding agents
Dabit announced his move to Cognition on February 4, 2026. He connected the decision to holiday experiments with Opus 4.5 and Codex 5.2, which convinced him that AI-assisted development had reached an inflection point. Cognition appealed to him for its combination of team, products, momentum and what he considered a substantial market opportunity at a relatively early company stage. He said he would work closely with @russelljkaplan, @theodormarcu and @itsandrewgao, and work with @swyx again.[5]
In his account of Cognition’s internal Devin workflows, Dabit explained how the team uses codebase Q&A to explore a problem and clarify a goal before starting an agent session. He described bug investigations that combine code searches, Git history and Datadog logs, with read-only database access for deeper debugging. His practical guidance was to split large challenges into smaller, isolated sessions and provide verification mechanisms for work requiring extensive testing. These were collective team practices, rather than systems he claimed to have built alone.[6]
Dabit reported that Cognition had merged 659 Devin pull requests into its own codebase in the week preceding his February 11 article, compared with 154 in its best week of 2025. Those figures described team output. His account emphasized a resulting review problem: “As we ship more code with agents, the bottleneck shifted from writing code to reviewing it.” He described using Devin Review to organize related changes and provide explanations with codebase context.[6]
In a February 23, 2026 essay, Dabit argued that developers should broaden the skills they can combine rather than rely on proficiency in one programming language. He presented consistent learning as a response to AI’s changing capabilities: “People talk about taste and agency, but I think the people who will win over the next few decades will simply be the most avid learners.”[7]
Earlier AI work: reusable mobile infrastructure in 2023
Before joining Cognition, Dabit built and launched AI experiments including RoamAround and AI Buddy. In his November 27, 2023 announcement of React Native AI, he explained that successive experiments required the same foundations, but rebuilding them slowed development. He created a configurable framework to reuse those components, with support for streaming text, chat interfaces, image generation and image processing.[3]
The framework addressed several specific integration problems. Dabit described server-side response normalization: handling different LLM providers’ response formats on the server and returning a consistent interface to the client. He also packaged streaming infrastructure, reusable chat controls and image-handling utilities. For OpenAI Assistants, the reusable foundation included the sequence of API calls and state management needed beyond a basic LLM request. The project drew on React Native, Expo, Node.js and Express.[3]
Earlier career: React Native, teaching and AWS
Dabit’s mobile framework work followed years of React Native development and teaching. In his June 2021 career account, he recalled beginning programming at 30 while building a website for his father’s clothing store in Mississippi, initially using WordPress. His first developer job took him to Los Angeles; he said he was fired after two months because he was underqualified, then developed his skills through contracting. After returning to Mississippi, he organized a local developer meetup inspired by those his colleagues had introduced him to in Los Angeles.[8]
At SchoolStatus, which he joined in 2015, Dabit and his team prototyped a mobile application with both Ionic and React Native and preferred React Native for their project. He recalled turning repeated UI code for buttons, titles and images into React Native Elements, an open-source component library, in a week. He maintained it for a couple of years before handing it to other maintainers, whom he credited with almost all the subsequent work that kept the project alive.[8]
His tutorials and consulting developed into React Native Training. Following a training visit to Amazon in Seattle and conversations with the AWS mobile team, he received an offer to work on AWS Amplify. He recalled keeping his company open but stopping new client engagements when he joined AWS, describing the opportunity to learn new technology as a reason for accepting. He also wrote React Native in Action, released by Manning in March 2019; the publisher’s historical biography identifies him as an AWS Mobile developer advocate, founder of React Native Training and host of React Native Radio.[8][9]
