Minn Kim
Lighthouse founder whose work spans immigration automation, AI-focused investing, and public writing about technology and human agency.
Minn Kim founded Lighthouse to help talented people build in the United States without visas becoming a barrier. Her work includes applying automation to immigration processes and investing at Bloomberg Beta to understand how AI would change the future of work. On her undated Substack about page, she describes herself as Lighthouse HQ’s founder and CEO.[2][3]
Lighthouse and immigration automation
Kim explains her decision to found Lighthouse on her personal website: “I believe the world’s best and brightest deserve a real shot at building the future in the U.S., and a visa shouldn’t be a blocker.” She lists applying automation to immigration processes among her contributions. Lighthouse serves technology companies; its work centers on using software to streamline complex visa applications.[2][3][4]
In her May 3, 2024 interview with Molly O’Shea, Kim discussed her own experience with U.S. immigration and her mission in founding Lighthouse. She criticized the employment-based immigration system as outdated and discussed the capped H-1B lottery, where demand exceeds available visas.[4]
Kim also presented an o1 demo in the meetup coverage included in Latent Space’s September 13, 2024 episode.[1]
Earlier investing and founder-support work
Kim’s career also includes AI investing and support for startup founders. On her personal website, she describes investing at Bloomberg Beta to understand how AI would change the future of work. Her career account also includes building On Deck’s global accelerator and co-founding Plymouth Street, where she learned how the immigration system underserves startups.[2]
Kim’s writing explores technology’s role in society and culture, alongside the practice of building startups. She expresses a techno-optimistic outlook: “I believe in a techno-optimistic future — that technology enables step changes in human agency.” She has written since 2014 about technology, lessons from startups, and what makes a life well lived.[2][3]
