NVIDIA cofounder and chief executive whose public AI views emphasize inference, agent deployment, and the coexistence of open and proprietary models.
Jensen Huang cofounded NVIDIA in 1993 and has served as its president, chief executive officer, and a board member since its inception. His public AI agenda at GTC 2026 emphasized inference infrastructure, the adoption and security of agents, and a model ecosystem combining open and proprietary development.[3][1][2][5]
Inference and agent deployment
Huang framed future computers as systems for “manufacturing tokens”, according to Latent.Space’s March 18, 2026 GTC coverage. The framing placed inference at the center of his account of the next wave of computing capacity.[2]
At the keynote, Huang praised OpenClaw, identified security issues, and presented NemoClaw as his proposed response, according to Latent.Space’s March 17 account. The publication’s follow-up reported his position that every company needed an OpenClaw strategy. His advocacy thus paired enterprise adoption with attention to agent security.[1][2]
Open and proprietary models
Huang rejected treating open and proprietary models as mutually exclusive. At a GTC session on open frontier models, he said, “Proprietary versus open is not a thing. It’s proprietary and open.” Kari Briski’s NVIDIA account, published March 25, 2026, placed that view alongside the newly announced Nemotron Coalition. Its first planned project was a base model codeveloped by Mistral AI and NVIDIA, with coalition members contributing data, evaluations, and domain expertise for post-training and continued development.[5]
These 2026 positions came decades after Huang helped establish NVIDIA around 3D graphics. The company’s earlier expansion into scientific computing and neural-network workloads provides context for the AI platform he now represents.[4][3]
Earlier career and NVIDIA’s founding
Before founding NVIDIA, Huang worked at LSI Logic and Advanced Micro Devices. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.[3]
Huang founded NVIDIA with Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem on April 5, 1993. The three met at a Silicon Valley Denny’s that year to discuss a chip enabling realistic 3D graphics on personal computers. Recalling the location in 2023, Huang explained: “It had all the coffee you could drink and no one could chase you out”.[4][6]
During Huang’s executive tenure, NVIDIA unveiled CUDA architecture in 2006, opening GPU parallel processing to science and research. Its technology also powered AlexNet in 2012. These milestones in NVIDIA’s corporate timeline mark the company’s expansion beyond its original graphics focus.[3][4]
Huang returned to the founding diner in September 2023 to unveil a plaque with Denny’s CEO Kelli Valade. His connection to the chain preceded NVIDIA: he had his first job at a Portland Denny’s at age 15. At the return event, he recalled working as a dishwasher, busboy, and waiter, and recommended restaurant work for teaching humility, hard work, and hospitality.[6]
