Jeff Wang

Former Windsurf CEO and participant in its combination with Cognition, where he is listed as President of New Enterprise.

Jeff Wang is a former CEO of Windsurf who participated in bringing the AI coding company together with Cognition in July 2025. His HumanX profile lists him as President of New Enterprise at Cognition, the company behind the software engineering agent Devin.[1][2]

Bringing Windsurf and Cognition together

Wang participated in the negotiations during a period of uncertainty for Windsurf. In their July 14, 2026 joint account, Wang and Scott Wu recalled that many Windsurf team members had just left for Google, recruiters were contacting those who remained, and customers were calling to ask what would happen next. They described a process lasting roughly 72 hours: a first call after 5 p.m. on Friday, a signed definitive agreement by Monday morning, and an announcement that afternoon.[1]

The central meeting brought together Wang and Graham from Windsurf with Scott and Russell from Cognition. Wang and Wu described the combination as a match between complementary capabilities: Cognition wanted a go-to-market organization, while Windsurf wanted engineering capacity. Their products also occupied distinct surfaces—Cognition had built a cloud agent and Windsurf an IDE. This was the coauthors’ stated rationale for the deal, with Wang participating alongside the other three negotiators.[1]

Public view of AI software development

In the same anniversary account, Wang and Wu described Cognition’s direction as a shift toward “self-driving software development.” They argued that AI tools were expanding what engineers could accomplish and enabling people who had never coded to create software. Their account framed the combined team around a shared commitment: “there's only one boat and we're all in it together.”[1]

Before his work at Windsurf and Cognition, Wang’s career included enterprise technology employers and ventures he co-founded.[2]

Earlier career

Wang began his career at Salesforce and Cisco. He co-founded RocketFuel Education and RNR Capital and held executive roles at several startups. His HumanX biography also lists an engineering degree and an MBA.[2]
