Alex Brinsmead

Software engineer publishing tools for AI-assisted code visualization, specification-driven development, and terminal coding.

Alex Brinsmead is a software engineer who publishes AI development tools under the GitHub handle abrinsmead. His projects include Mindpilot MCP, which renders diagrams generated through coding agents, alongside the executable-specification project okcmd and the terminal coding agent Cogent.[2][3][5][6]

Visualizing AI-generated code

Mindpilot MCP accepts Mermaid syntax and renders it in a local web application, using language models’ ability to generate that diagram notation. Its documented uses include viewing architecture, code, and processes from different perspectives. For reviewing AI-generated code, it proposes visualizations as a way to spot unused or redundant constructs that may need cleanup.[3]

The project supports exporting diagrams as vector images and describes diagram processing as local. Its stated information boundary still includes the coding agent’s LLM providers: “Everything stays between you, your agent, and your agent's LLM provider(s).”[3]

Specifications and coding agents

Brinsmead’s okcmd project articulates a specification-centered view of software development: “The spec becomes the source; code becomes the build artifact.” His Cogent project addresses the coding interface itself, describing a lightweight terminal agent with tabbed sessions.[2][5][6]

As of September 20, 2026, Caplight’s team page listed Brinsmead as a Staff Software Engineer.[7]

Earlier AI interface work: MindPilot in 2023

Brinsmead’s earlier public AI interface work included a MindPilot demonstration. Latent Space’s April 26, 2023 meetup report lists him presenting “MindPilot: Mindmapping Canvas, with Chat,” placing his work in the context of conversational interfaces combined with a visual canvas.[1]
