AI Breakdown

Nathaniel Whittemore’s AI news podcast and publication, combining news analysis with conversations about models, tools and developer practice.

AI Breakdown is an AI news podcast and publication hosted by Nathaniel Whittemore, also known as NLW. Its editorial work explains important AI news and discussions, including model capabilities, AI agents and how developers use emerging tools. The podcast feed associated with its 2023 episodes now carries the title The AI Daily Brief: Artificial Intelligence News and Analysis.[4][1][3]

News coverage and distribution in 2023

AI Breakdown was publishing by June 8, 2023, when it released “Are We In An AI Bubble?”. The episode examined renewed interest in whether AI was in a bubble following Nvidia’s stock-market rise. Its description promoted an AI Breakdown newsletter, YouTube channel and community alongside the podcast.[4]

On August 4, 2023, AI Breakdown and Latent Space collaborated on a summer technical roundup. The conversation covered OpenAI’s Code Interpreter, Llama 2, AI agents, AI companions and the emerging AI engineer role. Latent Space distributed it as a podcast feed swap, bringing AI Breakdown’s news coverage together with its own technical discussion format.[1]

The Four Wars collaboration in 2024

AI Breakdown revisited Latent Space’s Four Wars of the AI Stack framework in a return interview with swyx and Alessio, included in an April 6, 2024 compilation. Swyx explained that he developed the framework while recapping 2023. It organized AI competition around data, GPU-rich versus GPU-poor participants, multimodality, and retrieval-augmented generation and operations.[3]

NLW credited his guests with introducing the framework and said he had devoted an episode to it. He also reported using it, with credit to the guests, in a presentation at Intel’s annual internal AI event. The return interview applied the framework to developments including Sora, Suno and the changing GPT-4-class model landscape, then explored what developers were building, including agents focused on particular domains.[3]

Production practices and early reach

In the interview included in the April 2024 compilation, NLW recalled an AutoGPT video receiving approximately 50,000 views around his second day producing the show on YouTube. That recollection concerns one early video. He also described using Midjourney daily to create one or two YouTube thumbnails, a concrete example of applying the tools he covered to media production.[3]

Publication channels and the AI Daily Brief name

As of September 18, 2026, The Breakdown Network directory listed AI Breakdown’s podcast, YouTube channel, newsletter and Discord alongside The Breakdown Podcast and Bitcoin Builders Podcast. The historical AI Breakdown episode remained in the same podcast feed linked by the August 2023 crossover, under the AI Daily Brief title.[5][4][1]

On September 18, 2026, The AI Daily Brief website offered access through Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and a newsletter. It advertised ad-free listening through Patreon at $3 per month and a free team program called the Multiplayer AI Sprint.[6]
